Bread – left over

Many of us have bread which we don’t finish. I often bake bread but when I do buy it, I try to buy a loaf – not sliced – knowing that we wont finish it. And when we reach that final lump of bread, you would be inclined to throw it out as you can not make a proper slice. KEEP IT!! I use the scraps for croutons later to be used in salads or as a topping when making onion soup. Or I toast it in the oven so it is easy to grate and make breadcrumbs. Or, – I keep a lump measuring 2 cm in thikness, slice it finely, and make chips for dips. We often eat dark punpernickel bread for lunch, and the last thick slice which has become to small to properly slice, I grind and mix with sugar, seeds and nuts and use it as a topping for yoghurt or what ever else I use topping for.

Old bread is so versatile!!
